COURSE DESCRIPTION: = This course provides a hands-on, activity based learning that covers computer terminology, working with files, and protecting against computer viruses. It explores the Internet, teaches how to email and share pictures via email, a= nd how to do searches. Students will create a document with word processing software and a basic budget with spreadsheet software. An overview of other computer applications such as databases and presentations will be included.=

COURSE= OUTCOMES: = At the completion of this course students will be able to:

·      =    Define basic computer terminology

·      =    Demonstrate knowledge of the Windows Operating System by:

o   Using the Windows User Interface

o   Using the Windows File Management System to copy, rename, delete, and move files<= o:p>

o   Changing the System Settings (wallpaper, screensaver, etc.)

Demonstrate knowle= dge of the Internet by:

o   Using an Internet browser, using the features of the tool bar, accessing websites, and accessing search engines

o   Send, reply, and forward email messages

o   Using a search engine to perform searches using key words and phrases<= /span>

o   Attaching files to email messages

o   Describing various anti-virus procedures

o   Creating simple webpages

·      =    Demonstrate basic knowledge of word processing software by creating, saving, formatting, and printing a simple document.

·      =    Demonstrate basic knowledge of spreadsheet software by creating, saving, formatting, and printing a simple spreadsheet.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: You will need access to the Internet, Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to do activities that you may not be able to complete in class.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> If you do not have the software available, feel free to use any of the CSN computer labs.

ATTENDANCE: Attendance will be taken for the instructor’s records ONLY.

METHOD OF EVALUATION: This course is graded pass/fa= il. To receive a pass for the class you need to complete all the outcomes successfully. It is your responsibility to make sure that I have the outcom= es checked off for you. It is recommended that you also check them off the last page of this syllabus & date them as you complete them to keep track for yourself. All outcomes must be checked off by Thursday, July 31st.

WITHDRAWALS: If a situation arises that you will not be able to complete t= he course, my policy is as follows: the student MUST take the responsibility to withdraw from the class or be prepared to accept the final grade as earned.= If the student finds themselves in a situation where they cannot withdraw personally, the Admissions & Records Office (651-5610) should be contac= ted to make arrangements.

INCOMPLETES: Will not be given. If at the end of the semester you have completed the majority of your work (as determined by the professor) and an emergency arises, you need to contact me to make arrangements

TUTORIAL SERVICES:<= span style=3D'mso-bidi-font-size:12.0pt;color:black'> All CCSN students are allowed 4 ho= urs of free tutoring per one credit of coursework. Students enrolled in CIT 198B are entitled to 12 hours of free tutoring.&nbs= p; To make arrangements the student needs to take their semester schedu= le to Tutorial Services.

SAFETY PROCEDURES: = During the first week of the semest= er, the instructor will identify the location of the Emergency Procedure Chart = in the classroom that explain safety procedures for the campus.
